I too am a grandson of James Thomas and Ruth Maples Atchley, living in Rio Rancho New Mexico, USA. I’d be interested in sharing whatever information I may have and trying to find more info on Rollins Atchley (Atcherley).

Hi Kris. I do have a connection to Arthur Corbett, albeit a rather distant one – we would both be descended from a shared Atcherley ancestor back in the 1500s. I’ll email you directly.

Hi Chris. The Prestons I have in my Atcherley tree are descended from John Thomas Preston (a policeman) and his wife Emily Dennis (daughter of Henry Dennis and Ann Atcherley, and granddaughter of Captain James Atcherley, RM). Henry Dennis was a cabinet maker and Ann Atcherley’s brother William Henry Atcherley was an engineer. I can’t imagine why Ann would have been disowned by her family for marrying a policeman. This branch of the Atcherley family was not closely related to Llewellyn Atcherley. Hi James. Speaking as as a relative of Captain James Atcherley I would be more than happy if the new barracks were to be named after him and I’m sure that his other relatives and descendants would consider it an honour.

I have just read this page with great interest. My 3 x great grandmother is Anna Jane Garrett/Roger/Corbett, one who married Lieut Arthur Corbett in Sydney in 1833. Little is understood about Arthur Corbett.

Steve do you have a direct connection with Arthur? I should be very interested in talking to you.
