Trade and street directories provide information on the whereabouts, and usually also the occupations, of many members of the Atcherley family from the late 1700s up to the mid 1900s. The information they provide is particularly useful before the census of 1841, and also after the most recent publicly available census of 1911. However directories for the ‘census era’ are also of value, as they help to track people’s movements between the decennial snapshots of their lives.
