The seventh census of the United States, 1850
This census enumerated those who were residing in the USA on 1 June 1860. This was the first US census which collected information about every member of every household, and the first to record people’s birthplaces. Censuses before 1850 recorded only the name of the head of the household along with the number other household members in various age / gender categories.

The information recorded for each person in this census included where they lived, their name, marital status, age, sex, occupation or means of support, and the place where they were born. The head of the family was identified (where applicable), and the relationship to that person of everyone else in the household was indicated.
In the partial transcripts below: details of people other than members of the Atcherley family may be abridged; names and ages are given as written; marital status is not usually given for husbands and wives in the same household, for unmarried children living with their parents, or for persons aged under 20 who are not married; occupations may be amended for spelling and consistency; spellings of place names are corrected where possible; counties of birth are omitted if the person was living in the county of their birth at the time of the census; and words, letters or numbers (i.e. ages) which could not be transcribed are replaced with underscores: ___.
